Golf courses in the area tend to make great use of the mountain terrain of the lower Appalachians. Most rounds of golf will feature challenging changes in elevation and remarkable forest vistas. Some of the best golf clubs in the region are listed below.
Hampton Cove Golf Course is the northern-most stop on the state's famed Robert Jones Golf Trail. The course features 54 holes spread over 650 acres of river valley with mountains surrounding the landscape. The three courses play quite differently, and the River Course is the only Robert Trent Jones layout without a single bunker. Hampton Cove also features a 35,000 square-foot clubhouse with a dining room and a golf shop.
Redstone is open to active/retired or reserve military ID holders. The course includes 27 challenging holes set across the scenic landscape, a modern clubhouse, pro shop, and a short order restaurant. A driving range is also on site.
Monrovia Golf Course Huntsville
Conveniently located just 3 miles from Madison Square Mall and 8 miles west of downtown, visitors have easy access to the course. The 18-hole course features small greens and tree-lined fairways. A good public course for players of all skill levels.
Part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Oxmoor Valley features three 18 hole courses dropped into the hills and valleys of the lower Appalachians. The Ridge Course incorporates 150 foot elevation changes and heavy tree cover. The Valley Course stretches alongside picturesque lakes, finishing with a dubious par 4 nicknamed "The Assassin". The Short Course plays downhill with dramatic elevation changes.
