Spectator Sports![]() Spectator sports in the Mountain Region have a strong orientation towards youth. From each the many youth sports leagues in each community to collegiate athletics to the professional athletes of Huntsville's minor league teams, the action on the field and on the court spotlights the athletes of tomorrow. Huntsville HavocThe Huntsville Havoc hockey team continues to draw in fans every season. Practices held before their first game are often open to the public; so all fans can see the team getting ready. The Havoc play in the Southern Professional Hockey League. Huntsville StarsThe Stars made Northern Alabama their home in 1984 when the team moved from Nashville, Tennessee to a brand new 10,000 set multipurpose stadium in Huntsville. The Stars play in the Southern League as the AA affiliate of the Oakland A's. In the short history of the club, the Stars have sent 139 players on to the major leagues. Huntsville SpeedwayOnce a dirt track, Huntsville Speedway is now a ¼-mile paved oval. The track has been open since 1959, and has gone through many changes.
